Day Three presented very light conditions for our final day of racing, with starts postponed till 12:45pm covered Course 11 using the Surfers Mark for PHS & Cruising Divisions, and a final Windward/Leeward RTC for the IRC competitors off Broadbeach. Skippers and crew made the most of the delay however, with a calm sea state, crystal clear waters and skies tempting many for a splash alongside whales and dolphins in the sunny 28 degree morning.
It was a fortuitous call by Race Control to squeeze in 3 races on Day One, allowing the Championship Regatta to complete with a final single race 6 today. After Race 5 on Day Two yesterday, current standings for the QLD Yachting Championship sit close in IRC between Glenn Burrell’s ‘Black Diamond’, James O’Hare’s ‘Stratacare Racing Flyaway’, and Garry Holt’s ‘Lets Get It On Filabe’, who is tied with David Rose’s ‘Wedgetail’ in 4th, who are only just 1 point ahead of Steve Curtis’ ‘Aramex’.
Whilst in PHS, the Championship is a very close tussle with ‘Black Diamond’ only 1 point ahead of both ‘Aramex’ and ‘Stratacare Flyaway Racing’ who are currently tied in provisional scoring. Ocean Crusader’s ‘J-Bird’, skippered by Annika Thomson sits just off the podium in 4th.
Proudly supported by Experience Gold Coast, The Yacht Sales Co Sail Paradise 2024 Regatta wraps up today, with final results to determine Australian Sailing’s Queensland’s Yachting Champion for 2024.
